Online: Ask-A-Scientist Weekly Webinar: Environmental Engineering!

Event Time:
Tuesday, June 9, 2020 - 5:00pm
Location:
Zoom instructions will be sent to those who register. See map
Event Description:

Join us for another installment of Ask A Scientist Tuesdays at 5pm. We will hear from two engineers, Dr. Beza Getachew and Dr. Anna Hagstrom! Anna will share how she’s working with the CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection to protect CT residents and the environment from PFAS (an abbreviation for “per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances”). These are a family of synthetic chemicals with unique properties that cause them to build up in humans and the environment, pose risks to human health, and make them very difficult to destroy. Beza is a postdoc in the Materials Science Department at MIT. She will present on self-healing materials and how we can make water filters or membranes that can self heal. This research will allow us to reduce the cost of producing clean water and improve the reliability of our drinking water systems.

At this weekly series, you’ll have lots of opportunities to ask questions about science and how to pursue a career in science!

Open to Grades 7-12. Registration is required here. Zoom link will only be sent to those who register for the event.
