Birds are the only living animals with colored eggs. Certain colors are tied to characteristic behaviors, such as enhanced parental care and nesting preferences. But earlier ideas about the evolution of color and behavior did not consider the fossil eggs of birds and their dinosaur ancestors. We will explore color in both bird and dinosaur eggs using specimens from the Peabody’s collections to learn about the evolution of nesting and parental care in dinosaurs.
