Event Description:

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what would you do? Shipwreck stories and survival narratives have been part of pop culture for centuries: Lost, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Lord of the Flies can all trace their roots to the English novel Robinson Crusoe – published 300 years ago. How did Robinson Crusoe inspire centuries of storytelling and creativity? Which themes are still relevant today in contemporary literature and pop culture? During this event, you will join a discussion that started 300 years ago and analyze two of the most famous passages from Crusoe. You will also visit the Beinecke Library to see a 300-year-old copy of Crusoe, centuries-old illustrations, and other Crusoe-inspired rare antiquities. These treasures will be right at your fingertips! To register visit: onhsa.yale.edu/Crusoe
