Online: Peabody Museum’s Spinosaurus Webinar The First Swimming Predatory Dinosaur

Event Time:
Thursday, May 21, 2020 - 4:00pm
Location:
Zoom instructions will be sent to those who register. See map
Event Description:

A newly discovered fossil from the Moroccan desert has challenged the long-held belief that predatory dinosaurs were mainly land animals. A nearly complete skeleton of Spinosaurus is the first evidence of a large dinosaur adapted to life in water. Although paleontologists know that Spinosaurus was a fish-eater, the unique shape and unexpectedly flexible tail of this fossil clearly shows that it was also a good swimmer. Yale paleontologist Matteo Fabbri will describe how he and other researchers made this discovery and used robotic models to reveal that Spinosaurus and many of its relatives lived an aquatic lifestyle.
His presentation will be followed by a live Q&A.
