Believe In Me Empowerment Corporation

Believe In Me Empowerment Corporation (BIMEC) has a 20-year history of providing services to youth and adults in New Haven.  The organization works to improve the lives of children, young adults and their families impacted by and or affected by incarceration. BIMEC provides hope, opportunities and supportive services for families so that they may overcome challenges, reach their full potential and become productive citizens.

The Fellow will be engaged in case management support, co-facilitating groups, and supporting residents through various application processes for housing, jobs, and school.

Christian Community Action

Christian Community Action (CCA) expresses faithful witness by providing help, housing and hope to families in need in New Haven.  CCA serves families experiencing homelessness by providing apartment style emergency shelter and the Moving to Work Housing Program.   CCA also provides other emergency needs such as food, diapers, and assistance with utilities to people in the community.  With its ARISE (Accessing Resources for Independence, Skill building and Employment) Center, CCA goes beyond emergency help and incorporates a two-generational approach with families to help them on their journey to independence.   The organization also engages in advocacy through its Advocacy and Education Project, incorporating data and people’s stories to change systems that perpetuate poverty and injustice.

The Fellow assist ARISE  staff with helping residents and community members access child care and employment.

CitySeed

CitySeed is a community-based nonprofit with a mission to engage the community in growing an equitable, local food system that promotes economic development, community development and sustainable agriculture.  Cityseed has three programs: Sanctuary Kitchen, Incubates, and Farmers Markets. Its food entrepreneurship programs, Sanctuary Kitchen and Incubates, focus on supporting under-resourced chefs through affordable kitchen rentals, a Food Business Accelerator, and hands-on resources. CitySeed’s farmers markets host over 30 local farmers each year across the city at 3 locations. These  markets serve as one of the leading redemption sites in the state for nutrition benefits. CitySeed’s markets team also works to advance policies related to sustainable agriculture and farm viability.

The Fellow will assist the farmers market team with administering its SNAP and FMNP doubling programs, as well as leading market programming like children’s activities, cooking demonstrations, and community activities. The Fellow will also assist with CitySeed’s food entrepreneurship programs, assisting its storytelling campaign by documenting the journey of their diverse food entrepreneurs, creating engaging social media content, and coordinating feedback sessions.

Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen (DESK)

DESK serves people experiencing homelessness or living in poverty by providing food assistance and services that promote health, community, and equity. 

The Fellow will work with DESK’s program staff to coordinate the weekly food pantry program; assist with coordination of the distribution of meals as part of DESK’s nightly dinner program; and oversee the Friday and Saturday evening Yale Community Kitchen program in coordination with DESK staff; and gain an in-depth understanding of how frontline social services for people experiencing homelessness.

New Reach

For over 30 years, New Reach has been dedicated to ending homelessness and providing housing stability. New Reach offers shelter, supportive housing, and essential services to families and individuals in need, empowering them to achieve lasting independence. Each year, New Reach supports over 5,000 individuals through a holistic approach that combines housing, advocacy, and personalized services.

Fundraising Development Fellow

The Fellow will collaborate with New Reach’s fundraising development team to cultivate relationships with current and potential donors, strengthen community partnerships, and support events that advance the organization’s mission. This project aims to improve donor retention, engage new supporters, and foster sustainable partnerships with local businesses, Yale organizations, and community groups.

Human Resources Fellow

The Fellow will work within the Human Resources department to improve employee engagement processes. These processes include onboarding, offboarding, and the new hire orientation experience. The Fellow will also focus on making recommendations for increasing efficiency. This includes maximizing technology and ensuring a compliant hard and electronic file storage system is in place.

Upon This Rock Outreach

Upon This Rock Outreach’s mission is to rebuild the community by providing 24-hour emergency shelter for up to 75 men and operating a resource center that offers re-entry support, mental health services, employment and educational assistance, and basic needs such as food and clothing. Its vision is to inspire light and compassion in the community by providing spiritual guidance, support, and resources to those in need. Through collaboration and outreach, the organization aims to empower individuals to overcome challenges, find purpose, and experience the transformative power of God’s love.

The Fellow will assist with the day-to-day operations of the organization, which include: managing intake paperwork; conducting client introductions and answering basic questions; providing support with job applications, benefits paperwork, and enrollment in school or other programs; monitoring clients during group sessions; organizing paperwork; and answering telephones.
