Event Description: 
Alexandra M. Thomas, Ph.D. candidate, African American Studies and History of Art, leads a book club–style reading of excerpts from A Black Gaze: Artists Changing How We See (MIT Press, 2021) by the cultural theorist Tina M. Campt. Offered in conjunction with the exhibition Mickalene Thomas / Portrait of an Unlikely Space, for which Campt’s book has served as a foundational source. Come with an open mind; no prior knowledge of the text is necessary. Reading material will be provided.
