Over the course of Yale Synapse’s Super Science Sundays three-day virtual event, you will learn about the evolution of infectious diseases (March 13), take mini-Yale lab tours accompanied by demonstrations of research projects (April 3), and get a taste of how science is used in the real world by watching scientific demos (April 24).
Open to grades 6-12. Register here: https://onha.yale.edu/SuperScienceSundays
Session 1 (March 13): Our guest speaker is Professor Vanessa Ezenwa from the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology department at Yale. She will be speaking about her journey into research on infectious diseases, which focuses on how parasites such as worms, bacteria, and viruses shape the lives of wild animals. Her talk will be followed by a virtual activity on how parasites spread in animal populations and a Q&A period!
Session 2 (April 3): Christina Papini (Pharmacology), Malena Rice (Astronomy), and Rebecca Starble (Epigenetics) will discuss their favorite aspects of research and follow it up with demonstrations of the experiments they do everyday!
Session 3 (April 24): We’ll be stepping back, and you will be the scientists! Help us through a series of scientific challenges, including a forensic analysis of a crime scene, an immersion into the microscopic world, and a renewable energy engineering problem!
