Science on Saturday: How do animals remember? Using microscopic worms to understand memory

Event Time:
Saturday, February 9, 2019 - 10:00am
Location:
Sterling Chemistry Laboratory See map
225 Prospect Street
New Haven, CT 6511
Event Description:

Come for an unforgettable lecture where you will learn from Prof. Daniel Colon-Ramos how scientists use microscopic worms, jellyfish proteins, and colorful lasers to discover how animals remember. The Colón-Ramos’ lab is interested in how synapses are precisely assembled to build the neuron architecture that underlies behavior. To investigate this, they developed tools specially designed to accurately identify how new synapses form. Understanding these structures and functions may be important to solving certain diseases – click here to see Prof. Colón-Ramos’ interview on YouTube with Dan Rather.
Science Saturdays is an award-winning lecture series designed for families that brings the excitement of research and the passion of scientists to the community. Each event involves a lecture by a Yale professor and hands-on science demonstrations run by Yale College students.
Bring the whole family! Refreshments will be served. Parking is available at the Sachem-Prospect Garage on Prospect Street. This series occurs three times each semester.
Free admission. Open to the public. No registration required.
