Love Beyond the Bars

Possible Futures Bookstore and Tierra Soap Co. are co-hosting LOVE Beyond the Bars, an afternoon dedicated to supporting the community. Donations of essential items—soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, snacks, chapstick, and more—are being collected now through February 11, or can be brought to the event.

 

Volunteers will gather at Possible Futures to assemble care packages for unhoused neighbors, which will be distributed later in the week.

 

The event is inspired by Beyond the Bars, a group of incarcerated men at MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution who have organized efforts to donate books and essential supplies to those in need. As participants in a university-sponsored prison education program, they have explored literature on mass incarceration, history, poverty, race, and the American legal system, and are now paying it forward to the broader community.

 

Possible Futures welcomes all who wish to contribute, assemble care packages, and write messages of encouragement.
