“What to a slave is the 4th of July?” - Frederick Douglass

What did the founding fathers really mean by “We the People” ? Humanities Now presents “A Study Of American Freedom: What is the history of Frederick Douglass’ searing Fourth of July Speech.” Professor Daniel Schillinger will guide students as they engage in a deep dive of American Freedom through an interactive presentation on Douglass’ speech, analyzing it from a political, philosophical, and of course, a historical lens. Professor Schillinger is excited to teach and hear the thoughts of all of the participants in an inclusive, welcoming, and engaging learning environment.
