Event Description:

On New Years Eve, 1958, the dictator Fulgencio Batista fled Cuba after five years of war and widespread resistance to his regime. Fidel Castro and his 26th of July Movement were just one of the many groups responsible for Batista’s defeat, but quickly became the driver of the Cuban Revolution. By 1961, relations with the United States soured and resulted in a near total economic embargo that continues to this day. What happened during the Cuban Revolution, and why are Cuba and the United States intimately connected?
