Earth’s “Alien” Environments: A Voyage Through The Solar System

Event Time:
Tuesday, May 30, 2023 - 6:00pm to 7:00pm
Event Description:
Philippe Reekie, a Yale Astrobiologist, is about to embark on a virtual tour through our Solar System. On this trip, Philippe will introduce our celestial neighbors, describing what’s so special about them, and how we can study these alien worlds here on Earth. For e.g., did you know that Tanzania has volcanism that is quite literally out of this world? Tanzanian lava is extremely unusual, being a deep black, runny like milk and is mostly made of carbon; i.e. the same volcanism that has occurred on the planet Venus. Get hands-on with real extraterrestrial materials and extremely rare Earth materials while we embark on a cosmic voyage.

Open to students in grades 6-8 and their families.
