Preservation is a universal field with many facets that is carried out by conservators, historic preservationists, librarians, policy makers, scientists, archivists, and many others. The Traveling Scriptorium is a teaching kit, created by Yale University Library conservators and curators, to support the study of medieval and early modern books as material artifact. The Traveling Scriptorium brings hands-on exercises to classrooms across campus and works with Pathways high school students each summer to introduce them to pamphlet binding techniques, the history of inks and pigments, calligraphy, and the art of staple removal.
