Write Out Loud: Summer Workshop Series

Event Time:
Monday, August 5, 2019 - 10:00am
Location:
Poorvu Center See map
301 York Street
New Haven
Event Description:

Everyone—from media personalities, teachers, parents, to friends— has specific ideas about how you should live, what you should think about, and even what it means to succeed. But what do you have to say? WriteOutLoud, a new writing program from Yale Pathways to Arts & Humanities, will give you the chance to read, write, and raise questions about topics such as rebellion, identity, success, and education. How have influential thinkers and leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. and Malala Yousafzai challenged the status-quo, redefined success, and changed how we experience the world?
Through writing workshops and discussion, this one-week program will help you move the thoughts in your head to concrete ideas on the page. With the guidance of Yale Lecturers Felisa Baynes-Ross and Scarlet Luk, you will read and analyze historical documents, essays, art, and film and practice college-level writing to position your voice in an ongoing debate.
Who should apply? Do you:

Want techniques on how to improve your writing
Write what is expected, but want help putting more of you into your writing
Dislike writing and need a jump start with interesting and inspiring topics
Struggle with finding a “voice” when writing research papers for class
Love creative writing but sometimes freeze when asked to write a thesis statement
Want tools on how to formulate arguments on paper (and back them up!)
Seek a serious (but comfortable) academic space to ask questions and hone your skills
All of the above!

Then this program is for you!
