Humanities Now: As the Founders Intended

Event Time:
Saturday, March 27, 2021 - 2:00pm to 3:30pm
Location:
Zoom instructions will be sent to those who register. See map
Event Description:

Who “founded” the United States? What are the images and ideas we associate with America’s early years? Are we bound to the vision of our nation’s early leaders? Join Professor Greta LaFleur and members of the Yale Historical Review to explore these questions and more! By the end of this event, you’ll be an expert at tracking the political uses of different historical objects and ideas across time. Discover, for example, how the “Don’t Tread On Me” flag transformed from a Revolution-era war symbol into a banner for contemporary gun rights activists, and why projects like the 1776 Commission and the 1619 Project have fought so hard over what you learn in your history classes.

OPEN TO STUDENTS IN GRADES 8-12.  Registration required at onha.yale.edu/founders
